Each year, hospitals from across the nation that embody the highest standards of excellence are presented with a prestigious award from the Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit leader and advocate in hospital transparency. It was recently announced that CHI St. Luke’s Health-Memorial San Augustine received the organization’s 2018 Top Performing Rural Hospital Award – one of only two rural hospitals in the state of Texas and one of 17 in the nation to achieve this award.
The Leapfrog Hospital Survey uses 28 national performance measures to evaluate individual facilities, such as leadership policies and practices, preventing infections, and the use of technology to ensure safer care and the prevention of errors. Hospitals must also satisfy requirements for overall excellence and perform at or better than the national rate for many of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) standards.
“To be considered among one of the best rural hospitals in the nation is an incredible accomplishment,” said Monte Bostwick, President and CEO of CHI St. Luke’s Health-Memorial. “Leapfrog sets some of the highest standards in our industry, and our staff is dedicated to reaching and exceeding those goals every day for the utmost benefit of our patients.”
Ashley London, Director of Hospital Operations of CHI St. Luke’s Health-Memorial San Augustine, attended the Leapfrog’s Annual Awards Dinner and Ceremony on December 4 in Washington D.C. to accept the award on the hospital’s behalf.
“It was incredible to sit among the leaders from some of the country’s best hospitals and know that we were on that elite list,” London said. “This award means so much to those of us who have worked so hard to get us here. For our patients, it means they can rest assured knowing they will receive the absolute best in quality, safe care at CHI St. Luke’s Health-Memorial San Augustine.”
Data used to identify Top Hospitals is gathered and publicly reported through The Leapfrog Hospital Survey which compares hospitals’ performance on national standards in order to provide the most comprehensive picture of how patients fare at individual institutions.
“This award is a testament to the hard work and dedicated, compassionate service our employees bring to the hospital each and every day for our patients,” said Darlene Williams, Vice President of Clinical Operations for CHI St. Luke’s Health-Memorial San Augustine. “We pride ourselves on delivering the highest quality care possible, and we’re proud to be recognized for that.”
