The CHI St. Luke's Health-Memorial Ortho/Spine Post Surgical Unit opened December 2006 with a nine beds in Lufkin. Due to significant changes in Medicare laws and regulations concerning hips and knees, CHI St. Luke's Health-Memorial rose to the occasion to create a unit specific to these types of diagnoses to achieve maximum quality patient care. The primary goal of this unit is to provide intense acute therapy, utilizing the gym area, stairs, ADL friendly bathrooms/kitchen, and outside surfaces to help patients return home as independently as possible. Patients are admitted to this floor immediately following surgery to begin therapy. Special features of this unit include:
Nine large private rooms
Large gym area
Interdisciplinary team meetings
*Admitting diagnoses include: total hip, total knee, lumbar laminectomy, post vertebrioplasty, and total shoulder replacement.
